Birdcage Pattern Love
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 | By: Daphne Ellenburg
Week 20's theme will train your eyes to see things differently. Patterns are everywhere. The are on our floors, ceilings, place mats and even on your napkins...but that's just in the kitchen - Spend a few days looking for them and then shoot away!
For my shot this week, I was fascinated with the intriguing diamond shapes of the Birdcage Netting Pattern. There is something timeless about this pattern that I'm really in love with and right now it's so trendy. I shot it laying over things first but decided that the eyes to indeed have it and incorporated it into Madison's Mother's day shoot. I tried it in both white and black netting, and settled on the black. I started with this great color shot.
I took this shot wide open with a 2.8 app using the 50-200 lens - I love how creamy the background is. This shot had minimal edits with the new Photoshop CS6 - but I did use some great new Florabella actions. I used the New Classic Retouch Set. I brightened the eyes and used the sharpening brush for the eyelashes and the Birdcage netting that touched the face only.
To get this Black and White shot, I went from this above shot and used only Florabella's Classic Black and White action. It really pops the eyes. I love it.
Wishing you a week filled with amazing patterns!

We're a group for Photography Enthusiast and Professionals all teaching and learning through each other by photographing to a theme each week. We post our photos to our Flickr group each week by Thursday Midnight and start a new theme each Friday. Each Friday we spotlight 10 photographers and tell why they are featured. Our focus is on education (the how tos) and encouragement (don't be afraid to try something new). I'll bet there is something you'd like to learn. And...I'll bet there is something you can teach us. Check out the group, we're 74 strong this week! It's free to join and the friendships you'll make are priceless. Join us today!
