My Red Boat and Melted Cheese
Thursday, August 30, 2012 | By: Daphne Ellenburg
I've had one of those days where I'm pretty sure that I had to do everything twice, EVERYTHING. I'm fumbling through life today at 39 weeks pregnant with numb fingers and false labor. But I did have one thing to look forward to....it's casserole night. It's not that I'm particularly crazy about peas or carrots, but it's the one night where I toss everything into one beautiful white Corning Ware dish, cover it with cheese, throw it in the oven and put my feet up for an entire hour. It's the one glorious night of the week that everything dirty can swim happily in the dishwasher. I love casserole night. As much as a I love my Mom, she just doesn't "GET" casserole night. Did you know my Mom lives with me? In an effort to be helpful, she was working on my casserole when I got home today by cooking everything separately on the stove. Arggggh. I may have actually said, "You're ruining casserole night." My bad, seriously I'm pregnant. Why can't she just embrace all that is extrodinary and fully use the double Electrolux oven to it's full potential? {It really is a dream oven. Did you know it emits hardly any heat while it's on?} Anyway....after dinner was oddly completely cooked and perfectly layered, I covered it in cheddar cheese, tossed it in to Rosey (my oven) at 400 degrees and retreated for a hot bath. {So I named my oven, big deal.}
Across from the bath tub, I've got a beautiful painting. This is my happy place.
Red Boats. This is where I go. Surrounded by warm water and bubbles, I like to think about which boat I'm on and where I'm going. It's far from dirty dishes and to do lists. It's completely silenced from endless questions and the evils of Braxton Hicks contractions. It's a nice quiet place where I can forget that I pre-paid for my epidural today or that my paypal purchases mysteriously started coming out my joint checking account this week and I had to verbally admit to my husband how much money I'm actually tossing to Creative Live. {We all have our secret addictions, mine is live teaching webinars} Damn you Paypal. After crying a river for my Red Boat, the contractions stopped. The dishes were magically done by someone else's hands. And the cheese was perfectly melted. I wish every day could end with perfectly melted cheese. Cheese does make everything better. Mostly.

Irela - I am so glad you were able to relax in you tub and enjoy your heavenly, cheese casserole. It certainly are those little things in life that brings us peace and such happiness. So glad you were all okay (I was worried about you guys up there). I may not always leave a note that I visited....but I do always visit. Hugs
