Winter is a real challenge to photograph when everything around you is green. Alabama winters are more like a really cool spring, which I've always enjoyed. You know what they say, "You don't miss what you don't know. " Well, looking at all these GREAT winter shots this weeks, I'm really missing out on some winter awesomeness! We had a snow day in Alabama when Madison was two years old and she wore her rain boots in the snow. {She still calls them snow boots.} Every time it gets a little frosty here, she says, "Mom, think we'll have a snow day this week?" I always say "No way. You live in southern Alabama." After a few days in a row of the same question, I decided to create a snowy afternoon on a 73 degree day. It started with packing her winter finest and bringing it to the studio. I ordered a great backdrop from Lemon Drop Stop called Winter Birch. And I had a fuzzy white rug. I set up this fun scene and we swirled and played with it as if it were snowing. And then I added the snow in Photoshop. It was the cleanest snow party of all time. Here is our straight out of Camera shot:
Then I added a snowy overlay in softlight at a 70% opacity.
I put her in the snowglobe. She is just in love with this shot. I like it too. Snowglobes are the most wintery thing in Southern Alabama.
You guys really found some fantastic winter shots. Lots of frost this week and even a bit of snow. Big thanks to everyone who found the time to battle the elements to hunt down this week's Winter shot.
Our top ten is in no particular order. When you enjoy the shot, check out the artist. Chances are you will enjoy more of their fantastic work! Artist links are directly below each photo. Here we go...
