Uncomfortable.

Last night I faced my biggest fear. With every reason to talk myself out of it, at the very last possible minute, I entered WPPI's first half competition for portraiture. It's been a while since I competed in anything. I was nervous. Everything I do in my studio feels so personal and the idea of it being picked apart makes me uncomfortable. But then again, comfort is over-rated. Being uncomfortable stimulates change and growth. {That's what I'm telling myself} It's time.
The rules are extensive but the highlights are that all your work has to be within the past 24 months and you can only enter one portrait of each subject - that means no adorable Jeff-fest and no Madison-pallooza. Although, I'd do if I could - so that rule in no doubt is specifically for Daphne Ellenburg.
Digging through the past 2 years was so rewarding and exciting. We are so privileged to photograph so many wonderful families and children. I found Seven, then it was enter seven and get one free....so I looked some more. Then I found nine. Sigh. I didn't want to get rid of one. Now, if you enter 10 you get two free. I love Free....so I found 12. And if it wasn't for my love for waiting until he last possible minute, I could have found more.
Here they are, just a few of my favorites from the past 12 months and my entries into the WPPI first half competition.
We are participating in the Children's, Pets, Senior and Group divisions. Wish us luck and we'll let you know how we did.
Uncomfortable. It's not so bad from here.
XOXOXO,
Daphne
