Week 23, Our Rings and Things favorites
Friday, June 08, 2012 | By: Daphne Ellenburg
Rings and things are always fun for me to shoot. Not just brides and grooms at our weddings, but on little people. There is nothing cuter than tiny girls in big pearls or sparkling gems. I'm always adding to the sparkling things I use in my studio. I added these bracelets last week. Of course, my lovely daughter, Madison couldn't wait to model them. I think she had them on as soon as I snapped the tags off them. I love that she loves to be in front of my camera.
You guys really found some great things to photograph for this week's theme. I was impressed at how many ring varieties you were able to find...right down to the great edible rings, proving not every ring is for the finger, there are indeed some for the belly.
On to the top ten. As always, our top ten is in no particular order. Our artists links are below each photograph. If you like the shot, swing over and check out their work, and send them some love. Tell them what you liked. Photography is art. It's always changing. There is always something new to try and to learn. It feels good to send out some pats on the back, so go ahead and pat away! Here we go...
ONE {I really love the rope texture & the bokeh'd shimmer in the background stones. Really nicely done.}

TWO {This shot has a lot of great things going on. Great reflection. Great shadow. And a great interesting dangling subject.}

THREE {I always love the ring in a book. It's a classic favorite. It is so nicely done here in black and white. The book is an excellent choice. Love the way the light catches the ring. Great work here Treasure!}

TEN {This is a wonderful ring find. I love Zinnias. They come in every color, easy to grow, hard to kill and cut they almost last forever. It's my kind of flower! Great shot!}

Week 24's theme is.... "Black and White Portrait" This is a shot of my new nine year old. We took this with a 50-200 2.8 lens using 3 soft box lights. Two lights set up like a horizontal clam shell set up and on pointed at him from behind. No lighting on the black backdrop. Saw this technique on Lindsey Adler's creative live weekend and couldn't wait to try it.
I really wanted to capture Grant's great freckles, easily mission accomplished. Edited the black and white with only Photoshop CS6 and Nik Define 2.0.
What's new with Daphne this week?
Completely unsurprising to some, I'm getting really mixed up with dates and times while I'm pregnant. My phone reminders are the only thing keeping my life orderly. This week, I goofed in a big way. I had Madison's first dance recital slated for next weekend, so booking my romantic New Orleans super Art weekend for this weekend was going to be amazing...except for last Friday when I found out about my epic fail. So I cried a little...big deal, I'm pregnant. All I could think about is that this was my shot at some alone time with my amazing husband before we wake up to a family of four. After the tears were dried, and everything was in perspective. Dance recital trumps Peter Max art auction. So I'll never really know if I could bid on a private painting {where of course I'd be painted nude} and get to save easily $10k on an art induldging weekend, but getting to see my only baby girl dance on that big stage for the first time in her sparkling pink tutu will be priceless and I couldn't miss that.
In other excitement, I bought some beat down chairs at a thrift store this week...and am painting them some cool funky colors.
Got a great fortune...
And got to watch my super duper hubby relive 7 totes of his youth after his Dad evicted his baseball collection. Good times at my house this week.
Wishing you a great week filled fun, family and photography! Make it a great week!
