Shadows.

When I think about shadows, I always think about Peter Pan. Shadows are fun to play with and fun to watch babies chase. But when it comes to portrait photography, that's were it gets tricky.  It's very important to pay attention to what our shadows are doing in the photo. They have to be flattering for your subject or they are distracting to your viewer. I love that our shots this week had so much variety. And you never know where the light will find you for the perfect shadow hunt.

I found mine photographing a recital in Mobile Alabama. There was just something about this RED light and the Gatsby feel of this shot that I knew it was the shot of the week when she took the stage.

22/52 Boogie Shadows

You guys rocked out some great window light and some shadow chasing this week. Great job. Many thanks to all the wonderful photographers that participate in this weekly challenge. I know you week is full. But this creative outlet makes me feel FULL inside. I hope it does the same for you.

What's New with Daphne Ellenburg?

I'm really struggling this week with a solid work-life balance. I can balance the bookstore and home because books are not who I am inside. Does that make sense? I feel like my photography is part of me inside and when it spills out I want it to be the most perfect representation of myself and that is really taking time to balance.

And I take everything so personally this week. Craziness.

To combat my overwhelmed-ness, I've been automating all my editing batches. There is easily 4-5 things I do to every photo before I really do a detailed edit. So for those 4-5 things, I wrote an action and then automated the batch and walked away. It has really helped me this week. Consider it for your workflow.

And a friend shared this with me this week. It really helped me, maybe you could use it too.

So what else did we do? I saw a rainbow.

My sweet baby Grant turned 11-teen this week. His party is Saturday - he is having an Airsoft war in the Ellenburg Forest. And I had a typo on his invite - "Snakes and Cake" will be provided. I mean they will be in the woods, it's sort of possible right?

Madison had a beautiful dance recital at Studio 43. It was so much fun to watch her dance.

I decorated my guests with Madison Flair.

I found inspiration in this painting and want to photograph it with Madison and Princess Fiona.

And one of my milestone babies came in this week dressed as a porcelain doll. Here's our Selfie.

Isn't she something?

Wishing you a wonderful week filled with Family, Fun and Photography! Make a it a GREAT week!

XoXoXo,

Daphne
